Post a your favorite freeware game!

Mine is Dwarf fortress, created by bay 12 games
The main focus of the game is to provide tasks for your dwarfs to do and in the process create a fully functioning fortress, fight off invaders, and deal with problems inside the mountains.

Here is a link to the game with a custom tile set that makes a world of difference in understanding whats going on.

i can't believe that noone has added alien swarm to this list. go to steam.com and get it. it's a lot of fun, and it's free.
of course you have to deal with steam, but whatever. it's worth it for this game.
